floodingGreen Party Leader Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to the Municipal Disaster Recovery Assistance program:

"I support helping communities build more resilient infrastructure in response to the climate emergency we face. This is a good move.

But throwing a million dollars at a pilot project won’t reverse the damage the Ford government has done by cutting flood prevention programs, gutting environmental protections that limit flooding and spending millions to sabotage climate solutions.

It’s hypocritical and fiscally irresponsible for the Ford government to pass laws that will make flooding worse by paving over greenspace and farmland, draining wetlands and cutting tree planting programs.

I call on the government to reverse their actions that undermine the earth’s ability to limit damage from flooding and other extreme weather events.

We have a responsibility to do everything possible to prevent damage from extreme weather and to support communities reeling from the climate emergency."
