Over the weekend of August 13, 2022, to August 14, 2022, members from the Grey Bruce OPP were kept busy responding to over 50 calls for service in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula.

Below are some of the key events:

On August 13, 2022, at 11:31 a.m., a member of the Grey Bruce Traffic Management Unit was interacting with the driver of a commercial motor vehicle on Community Centre Drive. The officer determined that the driver of the commercial motor vehicle had a blood alcohol concentration above zero. The 40-year-old driver from Aylmer is charged with drive commercial motor vehicle in contravention of conditions contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The driver is also facing a three-day licence suspension.

The Grey Bruce OPP would like to remind those that drive commercial motor vehicles that under the Highway Traffic Act, anyone operating a motor vehicle that requires an A-F licence, or a Commercial Vehicle Operators Registration (CVOR) is required to have zero alcohol or drugs in their system.

At 7:34 p.m., a Grey Bruce OPP officer was conducting speed enforcement on highway 6 when they observed a driver to be travelling at over 150 km/h. A traffic stop was conducted and the 29-year-old driver from Mississauga was charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed. The driver is also facing a 14-day vehicle impoundment, a 30-day licence suspension, and a scheduled court date at the Provincial Offences Court located in Owen Sound.

Later that same day at 9:50 p.m., officers responded to the area of Queen Street East in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula for a three-car motor vehicle collision. Officers detected signs of impairment from one of the involved drivers, and they were placed under arrest and transported for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Derek Whitman, 49 years-of-age from Sudbury is facing the following charges:

· Operation while impaired

· Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

· Operation causing bodily harm

· Dangerous operation causing bodily harm

· Take motor vehicle without consent

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound at a later date.

On August 14, 2022, at 5:27 p.m., officers responded to Sauble Beach for a report of a missing child. Within 20 minutes, the child had been located and was reunited safe with their family.

Throughout the rest of the weekend, officers responded to other calls for service which included multiple traffic complaints, traffic hazards, noise complaints, break and enters, suspicious persons, and mental health calls.
