On Sunday May 20th, 2018 shortly before 9:30 pm, Owen Sound Police were contacted by a motorist following a suspected impaired driver. The caller reported to police dispatch that they had observed the vehicle swerving on the roadway and travelling in the marked parking lane. The caller also reported that the vehicle proceeded through a red light while in the downtown core. The caller stayed with the vehicle providing police dispatch with vehicle description, updated location and driving evidence until police arrived in the area.
Police located and stopped the suspect vehicle in the 200 block of 8th Street East. A Standard Field Sobriety Test was conducted and as a result the 66 year old female driver was placed under arrest for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
The Owen Sound driver will be in court later this month to answer to the charge of driving while impaired by drug. Police credit the caller for providing updated and accurate information which assisted police in swiftly locating and stopping the suspect.
