On May 30, 2018, at 12:00 pm, the Owen Sound Police Service received a call from a male stating that there was a bomb in the Giant Tiger store in Owen Sound. All units of the service responded to the incident.

Giant Tiger and Good Life Fitness was evacuated at the Heritage Mall with Owen Sound Fire and EMS on standby. Other officers began tracing the call and determined a location. After investigating the area, a 31 year old male of no fixed address was arrested.

Officers determined that the bomb threat was a hoax and that there was no threat to public safety. As a precaution, the old location of Giant Tiger on the west side was also attended by the OPP until it was determined that the threat was a hoax.

The 31 year old male was charged with:

Public Mischief
Utter Threats
Mischief
Failing to comply with probation

He will attend a court date on June 28th to answer to the charges.
