On June 11, 2018 at 1:20 a.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police received a report of a structure fire on 5th Avenue southwest in Chesley. Officers arrived with members of the Chesley Fire Department to find that more than one house was involved in the fire.

An adult and a young child that escaped the fire are receiving treatment in hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators have discovered the remains of three bodies at the scene of the fire. Their identity is being withheld pending positive identification and next of kin notification.

The investigation is continuing with assistance from the Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Services (OCC-FPS), the South Bruce OPP Crime Unit and the OPP Unmanned Aerial Surveillance (UAS) unit.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
