On June 21st, 2018, the Owen Sound Police Service was informed that a man known to be in the Owen Sound area was wanted by the O.P.P for an alleged theft that occurred at a business on the 'Sunset Strip' just west of the city limits.

Late afternoon, the man was observed by the Owen Sound Police in the 200 block of 8th Street East. An officer approached the accused and while being arrested, he spun around and broke free from the officer who then pursued him. The man was able to evade capture.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m. the accused allegedly stole a bicycle from a porch in the 900 block of 6th Avenue East, and was seen by police riding it just after 2:00 a.m., on 9th Street East. The man refused to stop for police, dismounted the bicycle and ran.

After a brief foot chase the accused was taken into custody. Along with the stolen bicycle, the man was found to be in possession of an altered cheque. The 31-year-old man of no fixed address, was held in custody and will attend court today for the offences of:

* Theft Under $5,000.00

* Possession Under $5,000.00 (Bicycle)

* Possession Under $5,000.00 (Cheque)

* Forgery

* Breach of Probation Order

There were no physical injuries reported. The Owen Sound Police Service reminds citizens to lock their property, including bicycles when not in use.
