It is just the beginning of the summer travel season and the Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police is alarmed by the number of drivers that are operating their vehicles in a careless and reckless manner by speeding on area highways, namely Highway 6.

Since January 1, 2018 to July 12, 2018 Bruce Peninsula OPP have charged 40 drivers with stunt driving - driving excessive of 50 km/h or more over the posted speed limit. As a point of reference, Bruce Peninsula OPP charged 48 drivers for the same offence for the whole year of 2017.

This past weekend, Friday, July 6 alone, OPP charged five stunt drivers on Highway 6. The following drivers were charged with stunt driving - speeding by 50 or more km/h 172(1) Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

54-year-old male, Kenneth Langille of Scarborough
19-year-old male, Jay Patel of Peoria, Illinois, USA

"We will continue to be vigilant and charge those who choose to put the safety of themselves and others in jeopardy. When you operate a motor vehicle it is your responsibility to obey the rules of the road and drive safe, your life and the life of others depends on it," says Interim Detachment Commander - Staff Sergeant Paul Richardson
