On September 1st 2018 just after 5:30 p.m., alert citizens observed a Pontiac Grand Prix in the area of 10th Street East and 9th Avenue East within the city of Owen Sound. The westbound vehicle was swerving and straddling the lane lines on the road. The concerned motorists pulled up beside the car and asked the driver if she was okay. The Georgian Bluffs resident barely had her eyes open and continued to travel west bound before striking a curb and pulling off the roadway. The witnesses called 911 and police attended, investigated the driver and subsequently took the 47 year old woman into custody. The driver was found to have over 2.5 times the legal limit of alcohol in her blood. The local resident will appear in court later this month after being charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Operation with over 80mgs. Of Alcohol.

On Saturday night a Joint Forces Traffic Initiative involving officers from the Owen Sound Police Service, Grey County OPP, Bruce Peninsula OPP, South Bruce OPP, West Grey Police Service and Saugeen Shores Police Service was deployed within the city. The focus was on effective enforcement and deterrence of drinking and driving and related offences. 1400 drivers were checked during four separate R.I.D.E spot checks which resulted in two charges under the Highway Traffic Act and 8 warnings under the Highway Traffic Act.
