OS-Police-Targs-fullGrandmother receives multiple charges after poor decisions.

A 67 year old Georgian Bluffs woman was charged with multiple offences under the Highway Traffic Act and the Smoke Free Ontario Act today after a police investigation in Owen Sound. Shortly after 11:00 a.m. a citizen called police to report a woman driving in downtown Owen Sound with a baby in her arms while smoking a cigarette.

Police attended the area of 1st Avenue West and located the suspect driving north bound. The investigation confirmed that the woman was driving with a one year old child and a 3 year old unsecured in the vehicle. The one year old was sitting on the centre console of the vehicle and the 3 year old was seated, unbuckled, in the front passenger seat. The vehicle was found to have no child safety seats in it.

Child and Family services were also dispatched to the scene to assist in the investigation. In the end the woman was issued a total of eight tickets by police under the Highway Traffic Act and Smoke Free Ontario Act with fines totalling $1445.00 dollars. Grey Bruce Child and Family Services assisted in getting the children safely home.
