Hanover PoliceSuspect arrested in Hanover for unauthorized possession of a firearm and robbery.

On Thursday, November 1st, 2018 at 6:36pm, members of the Hanover Police Service took a report of a robbery, which had occurred in the300 block of 10th Street, Hanover. The victim told police that a male associate had approached them and demanded money for an owed debt. The male then brandished a knife, which resulted in the victim handing over a bag as collateral. The male fled on foot.

Through investigation, the suspect male was identified as a 17-year-old youth from Hanover. Hanover Police located and arrested the male youth on Wednesday, November 7th, 2018 at 8:55pm. A knife was recovered from the youth. He has been charged with Robbery and Possession of Stolen Property, under the Criminal Code. He was further charged with violating the terms of an earlier court order.

While dealing with the youth police received information that he had also been in possession of a stolen rifle and ammunition. The rifle was taken from a motor vehicle parked in Hanover the previous night.

Hanover Police were able to recover the rifle and ammunition. As a result, the same youth was further charged with Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon obtained by Crime and Theft from Motor Vehicle under the Criminal Code. He was also charged with failing to comply with an earlier court order.

The youth was taken for a bail hearing in Walkerton where he was remanded into custody pending his next court date.

Hanover Police would like to remind persons in lawful possession of firearms to store them in an adequate manner. It is recommended that firearms never be left in unattended vehicles. This creates a safety risk for officers as well as other citizens should they be stolen.
