OS Policesept fullOwen Sound Police kick off their festive R.I.D.E program.

Officers from the Owen Sound Police Service despite the inclement weather kicked off the start of their festive season R.I.D.E (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program yesterday. Over 1000 motorist were stopped during the spot checks throughout the day and evening and all were found to be in compliance with the rules on impaired driving.

It was at approximately 9:10 p.m. when officers were conducting checks of the sobriety of drivers in the 600 block of 9th Avenue East when a lone elderly motorist came upon the R.I.D.E. The officer taking the time to speak with the 78 year old driver soon became concerned for the driver’s well being. The male driver appeared confused and was not aware that he was in Owen Sound. Investigation revealed that the man had set out from his residence in Brampton to get gas in his vehicle and ended up driving to Owen Sound. The son of the driver was located and notified, to his surprise of his father’s whereabouts. His vehicle safely remains in Owen Sound as his son collected his father taking him back home.
