snowbanks

Police are reminding drivers and pedestrians to take care around snowbanks that obstruct vision.

On Friday just before 8:30 p.m. the Owen Sound Police Service responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of 12th Street East and 3rd Avenue East within the city of Owen Sound. A 2011 Hyundai was being operated by an Owen Sound woman who was travelling westbound on 12th Street East. The driver proceeded into the intersection after stopping at the stop sign and was struck by a 2000 Audi which was being operated by a Durham area man who was northbound on 3rd Avenue East.
Grey County EMS and the Owen Sound Fire Department also responded, with the driver of the Hyundai being transported to hospital with minor injuries.

As a result of the investigation the Owen Sound woman was charged with Fail to Yield to Traffic on Through Highway, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

Police would like to remind all citizens to take extra care when entering and exiting driveways and intersections as the heavy snow accumulation has caused the snow banks to become very high, making it difficult for drivers and pedestrians to see around the piled snow.
