The Hanover Police Service is actively investigating two suspected drug overdose deaths, which occurred in a span of 3 days.

On Monday, March 18th, 2019 at 12:20 pm, Hanover Police were called to a residence in the 300 block of 9th Street, Hanover to check the well-being of a 59-year-old man. After entering the residence police found the man deceased. A forensic post-mortem was conducted in London on Tuesday, March 19th, 2019. Police are awaiting toxicology reports and are currently treating this death as possibly a drug related overdose.

On Thursday, March 21st, 2019 at 3:10 pm, Hanover Police were called to a residence in the 300 block of 10th Street, Hanover for a 36-year-old man in medical distress. The man was transported to Hanover and District Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A post-mortem was conducted in Owen Sound on Friday, March 22nd, 2019. Police are again awaiting toxicology reports but are currently treating this death as possibly drug related.

On Friday, March 22nd, 2019, Hanover Police partnered with the Grey Bruce Public Health Unit, Hope Grey Bruce, Canadian Mental Health Association and the Urgent Response Mental Health Team to educate at risk and susceptible individuals within the local community. A total of 45 Naloxone kits were distributed on that date and more are available free of charge at most pharmacies as a harm reduction strategy.

Hanover Police are urging the public not to be tempted to take any illegal drugs. It is impossible to know what they are made of, where they have come from or what effects they may have on you.
