ospslogoAt approximately 9:40 a.m this morning, the Owen Sound Police Service, Fire and Emergency Services responded to a serious personal injury collision at 2nd Avenue East and 8th Street East.

The investigation determined that a green Nissan pickup truck was travelling southbound on 2nd Avenue East and failed to stop for a red light. As the pickup entered the intersection a red Mazda, travelling westbound on 8th Street East, broadsided the driver’s side of truck in the intersection. The force of the impact caused the truck to flip onto its side and slide across the pavement, coming to rest on southwest corner of the intersection partially on the sidewalk.

The driver of the pickup truck ended up trapped in the vehicle and had to be extracted by Fire Fighters. He was subsequently transported to hospital by Paramedics. The driver of the truck was treated at the hospital for minor injuries and later released. The driver of the red Mazda was examined at the scene by Paramedics and did not require further medical attention.

Both vehicles received extensive damage and had to be towed from the scene. Fire Fighters and City Works staff assisted in the clean-up of the intersection.

The 38 year old male driver of the pickup truck has been charged with failing to stop for a red light, in contravention of Highway Traffic Act.
