At approximately 12:30 p.m, on Monday June 17, 2019 the Owen Sound Police Service received information that a bear had been seen near the valley behind Alpha Street and 7th Avenue West.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) attended the scene; and with the police determined that the bear had not posed a risk to the community and that it had likely naturally wandered into the valley and stream area.

There were no injuries and there is no indication that the bear ever posed a risk to the community.

We remind the public that if a bear is observed in populated areas to always call 9-1-1 immediately.
