OSPS logoThe Owen Sound Police Service is reminding citizens that when your vehicle is left unoccupied, the best way to prevent theft is to ensure that your vehicle doors are locked. This simple crime prevention tip is one of the most valuable actions to avoid theft from your vehicle.

Victim’s from both the east and west side of the city have reported thefts from their vehicles over the last 24 hour period. Below are some additional strategies that can help you prevent being victimized of theft from your vehicle:

  • Lock your doors
  • If your vehicle has a trunk, place valuables in there
  • Always remove, stow or hide valuables if you have no trunk
  • Place GPS, computer bags and electronics in an area that is not visible
  • Do not leave wallets, purses, loose change or paper money in sight
  • Park in well lit area’s when possible
  • Report thefts immediately

Thefts from vehicles are crimes of opportunity and only take seconds for the criminal to complete. Remember that the best way to prevent these crimes is to, “Lock It or Lose It”.
