Owen Sound Police were kept busy this Labour Day weekend with officers responding to over 100 incidents during the dayshifts Friday through Sunday. This included responding to four motor vehicle collisions on Saturday August 31st.

One of the collisions involved a motor vehicle travelling northbound through the intersection of 9th Ave East at 16th Street East just before 2p.m. The driver didn’t stop for the red light and was struck by a westbound vehicle. The impact resulted in the northbound vehicle losing control and rolling twice before coming to rest on its side, on the lawn of a nearby business. Owen Sound Fire Services attended as the occupants were trapped in the vehicle. Both occupants were removed safely and transported to hospital by Grey County Paramedics.

Both occupants were very lucky as they were treated for minor injuries and released. A Scarborough woman was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Red Light Fail to Stop.

A couple of hours later police responded to the area of 6th Street East and 9th Avenue East for a Fail to Remain collision. As a result of the efforts of concerned citizens and diligent officers, the vehicle that fled the scene was located on the west side of the city, as was the driver. The 25yr old Owen Sound male was arrested for his actions and faces charges under the Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act.

Just after 8:00a.m. Sunday morning, police took their first male into custody after having learned of his arrest warrant. The Owen Sound man was also found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine and was held for Bail.

The trend continued with three others becoming involved with police during separate incidents during the day. Two Owen Sound women and one Owen Sound man each had one or more arrest warrants and as a result were taken into custody, with two of them being held for Bail.
