OS Police target fullFriday October 11, 2019 marks the launch of Operation Impact, a national campaign to make Canada's roads the safest in the world.

This special weekend is a Canadian police initiative designed to remind people that an essential part of police enforcement is to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways.

Educating the public in safe driving practices is a priority. This weekend we are focusing on the main causes of death and injury on the roadways. These include, driving while impaired by alcohol or drug, proper seatbelt and child seat use, aggressive driving and distracted driving.

More than 90% of collisions on our roads are caused by driver error or the condition of a driver. This means that road-crashes are preventable. That statistic is unacceptable to the Owen Sound Police Service and that is why, in support of Operation Impact, we join this campaign with all police agencies in Canada.

Operation Impact and the zero tolerance enforcement will commence today and operate until midnight on the holiday Monday, October 14.

We remind the public that we all work together for safer roads, so if you see an impaired driver, please call 9-1-1 immediately. For more information visit www.cacp.ca
