The battle of the Midwest opens tonight as the Owen Sound Attack travel South on Highway 6 to take on the Guelph Storm in the series opener.

sports mcniven featThe Ontario Hockey League today announced the recipients of four of the league's annual awards following the conclusion of the 2014-15 regular season.

Michael McNiven of the Owen Sound Attack was awarded the F.W. "Dinty" Moore Trophy (Best Rookie GAA) McNiven had the best goals-against-average among OHL rookie goaltenders with a mark of 2.79 this season becoming the first Owen Sound Attack goaltender to earn the award.

The trophy is named after F.W. "Dinty" Moore of Port Colborne, ON, who served as OHA President from 1942-45. In order to qualify for this rookie award, a goaltender must play a minimum of 900 minutes.

McNiven, a 17-year-old from Georgetown, ON, was listed sixth among North American goaltenders by NHL Central Scouting in their Midterm Rankings for the 2015 NHL Draft. This season he posted a 15-8-0-0 record with two shutouts along with a save percentage of .914.

attackblack-featThe Owen Sound Attack enter the final weekend of the regular season with a chance to clinch home ice for the first round of the playoffs. With games against the Guelph Storm on Friday and then against the Sarnia Sting on Saturday, a pair of wins could mean the Attack will be at home for games one and two of the playoffs.

Owen Sound enters the weekend in 4th place, just three points back of Guelph, who they take on at 7:30 pm at the Sleeman Centre on Friday. A weekend sweep for the Attack, and a Storm loss on Sunday would mean the Attack clinch 4th place in the conference. But first they have to get through Guelph, who only needs one point to secure home ice.

An Open Letter to Owen Sound Attack Fans Everywhere

By Dr. Bob Severs

In recent days, fans of the Ontario Hockey League have watched with interest as three of the teams in the league have changed ownership, with two of those franchises announcing a plan to relocate. First the Plymouth Whalers were purchased and plans were made to play in Flint, Michigan next season, then the Sarnia Sting announced new ownership with the plan to stay in Sarnia. Last Thursday, the league announced that the Belleville franchise had been purchased by a gentleman in Hamilton and the "Bulls" would begin a new chapter of the team's life in the "Steel City". These news stories have made some of the fans of the Owen Sound Attack nervous about the fate of their team and we are seeing concerns voiced through the internet, Twitter and other social mediums. It is in response to these comments that I am writing to you to dispel those concerns.
