VARNEY – This past Friday was military night at Full Throttle Motor Speedway. The Canadian Veteran Freedom Riders were in attendance to kick off the night, along with local MP Larry Miller. There was also an opportunity for fans to get a look at the Portrait of Honor and meet the artist behind it, Dave Sopha.

Pro Late Model action highlighted the night again, with a good car count and a few first time runners. Everyone is working hard on getting their cars dialed in for "The Big One" race taking place August 31st. In feature one it was all 83 Dale Shaw from Guelph, as he jumped into an early lead. The 11 of Cole Weber from New Hamburg would work his way through the field, but the best he could do was make it to Shaw's back bumper and that is how they would finish.

race-fullShaw, Weber, third was 37 Dave Elliott from Stoney Creek, fourth 40 Mark Dixon from Durham and rounding out the top five was 1 Kent Nuhn from Desboro. In feature two 37 Dave Elliott would take advantage of his outside pole starting position to jump to an early lead, but had to defend it after a lap five caution. On the restart he would find local runner 12 Justin McLeallan from Mount Forest on the outside. McLellan worked the highline as best he could but 37 Elliott was too strong and McLeallan was forced to drop in behind. At the finish it would be 37 Elliott, then 12 McLeallan, third would go to 11 Cole Weber, fourth 1 Kent Nuhn and rounding out the top five this time 83 Dale Shaw. Mini Stock action had some of the fastest laps of the season, with a lighter than normal field due to scheduling conflicts for some drivers. In feature one it was 36 Cory Young from Owen Sound jumping to the early lead and trying to put some distance on the field, but a lap two caution would bring them all back together as 5 Craig Kamrath from Owen Sound got into 51 Clark Hartman from Waterloo. Young would jump to the lead again on the restart and would hold that lead till Hartman tracked him down on lap 13 to make the pass. Hartman would hold on for the checker. Second was Young, third was 7 Paul Boyd from Harriston, fourth 35 Tim Tolton from Guelph and to round out the top five it would be Craig Kamrath in the 5. Feature two saw more of the same fast paced action! 51 Hartman was able to use his outside pole position to work the highline around short track specialist, 35 Tim Tolton. Hartman grabbed the lead and he never looked back. Tolton was able to hold a solid second spot until lap 12 when 36 Young was able to take it away, but that would be the closest he would get to the leader. In the end it would be Hartman, Young, Tolton, then 5 Craig Kamrath and rounding out the top five was 7 Paul Boyd.

In Pure Stock action, feature one saw 70 Josh Shantz totally dominate the field, starting on the pole position he was off like a rocket! All of the battles for position were behind him, and in the end it would be 14 Luke Bos from Conn in second, followed by 17 Bill Clarke, fourth would be 43 Joey Schouten from Mount Forest and 51 Jason Tolton from Guelph. Feature two saw 14 Luke Bos jump to the early lead but by lap three the quick 17 of Bill Clarke took over. Bill would hold the lead until an unfortunate turn of events at the bottom of corner three on the last lap. The fast- moving 70 Josh Shantz had managed to work his way through the field and in a bold move, rammed the leader. Shantz got Clarke loose enough to allow him to get to the checker first, but was penalized one spot for his actions. So the final results where 17 Bill Clarke, 70 Josh Shantz, third 14 Luke Bos, fourth 34 Don Tremble from Durham and fifth 51 Jason Tolton.

In the Crazy Trains fans were treated to one of the most entertaining runs of the season in feature one. Jonathon Bates Roofing out of Owen Sound survived to get the checker flag followed by Rockford Rednecks and Texas Traincar Massacre. Feature two, unfortunately for the fans, was less then lackluster. Only two teams finished at the checker, it was Texas Traincar Massacre followed by Jonathon Bates Roofing.

Next racing action will be this coming Friday Aug 8th at 7:30. It will be a full action- packed night of Pro Late Models, V8 Thunder Stocks, Mini Stocks with three 20-lap features, Pure Stocks and Crazy Trains.
