Open HouseOwen Sound’s Roselawn Bowling Club is celebrating National Bowls Day with an open house on Saturday June 8th. People of all ages are welcome to visit the club between 10am and 4pm for a free tour of the clubhouse and introduction to the game.

“National Bowls Day is an opportunity for us to introduce new people to the game” said club president Linda Stinson. “People often think that bowls is only for old folks but that’s not true. We have members in their twenties all the way to their late eighties because you can learn to play quickly and just keep learning and playing. One of our members started playing when he was seven years old”.

Roselawn will start the open house with a mini-tournament for first-time bowlers at 10am. Participants will receive a short introduction to lawn bowling and be paired up to play a few speed games of two to four ends. The winners will be congratulated by local MPP Bill Walker and Owen Sound’s new Police Chief Craig Ambrose. The City of Owen Sound has entered two teams already including the mayor, deputy mayor, and two members of council. Contact Ray Uotila at [email protected], call (519) 378-5558, or arrive promptly on Saturday morning to enter. Visitors are not obliged to participate in the morning mini-tournament.

The clubhouse is fully equipped with bowls of various sizes and free coaching is available throughout the year for visitors and new members.

“We host school groups in the spring and it’s always fun to see new bowlers get into the game,” Stinson said. “We’re hoping that lots of people drop by to celebrate National Bowls Day on the eighth. It’s a perfect game for people who like being outside, casual play, and a little exercise all at once”.
