Local artists Joan and Steve Irvine present the final session of this series of TOM Talks

These presentations explore themes and issues brought to light by our current exhibitions. This summer, local artists and their families discuss how they balance their "day-jobs" and domestic responsibilities with their art practice. Always free, and always intriguing.

On Sunday August 24 at 2pm, join us at the TOM for our last talk in this series with guest speakers Joan and Steve Irvine.

A multi-award-winning photographer and ceramist, Steve Irvine's work has been shown in over 100 exhibitions, and he has led numerous workshops and lectures world-wide.

Ceramics and photography have always been more to me than just a way to earn a living. The arts are an instrument of understanding — a way to look for meaning, truth and harmony in my life. Working in the arts also gives me the opportunity to bring a small degree of joy and beauty into other people's lives, which helps me to find my place in the world.

Joan Irvine, also known as "The Pop-Up Lady", is author of numerous children's books on making pop-up crafts, cards and books. Her paintings, prints, collages and cards, have been published in magazines and featured in shows. Her work reflects whimsy, spontaneity and thoughtfulness. She is interested in the underlying energy of people and situations.
