Eagle Hunting Nomads
On Wednesday, November 6, from 7:30 to 10pm at Heartwood Hall in Owen Sound, the Governor General Literary Award Nominee, Allen Smutylo, will launch his new book, The Mongolian Chronicles: A Story of Eagles, Demons, and Empires.

Music will be provided by the Charlie Bell Trio from 7:30 to 8:15 with charcuterie provided from the Milk Maid of Owen Sound. Smutylo will discuss his time living with the eagle hunting nomads of West Mongolia, and present the powerful artwork that depicts one of the last cultures on earth that hunt wild game on horseback using huge golden eagles.

Local culture company, Rrampt, is presenting the event. “We wanted to create an evening that will cater to all the senses,” says Rrampt owner Jesse Wilkinson.

With vivid prose, historical photographs and powerful artwork, The Mongolian Chronicles portrays a rarefied world of tent-dwelling nomads, governed by the weather, by the threat of predators, and by ancient customs and shamanistic beliefs, not unlike the life of their forefathers in the time of Genghis and Kublai Khan.

Smutylo’s previous books have earned him the Best Travel Adventure Book Award at the Banff Mountain Festival, and a nomination for the Governor General's Literary Award in Non-fiction, and the Edna Staebler Award for Creative Non-Fiction.

Following the presentation, Smutylo will be available to sign books and answer questions. The bar will be open throughout the evening. Tickets are $10 and are available Online at Eventbrite, and from Heartwood Home.
