OS volunteersFor over 40 years, the City of Owen Sound has been recognizing volunteers from community groups and organizations who have made a significant contribution to the quality of life in the City of Owen Sound by awarding a Volunteer of the Year and Senior of the Year award. In 2018, an award for Youth Volunteer of the Year was introduced for volunteers 21 years of age and under.

Award winners in 2021 included Pat and Thom McDonough – Volunteer of the Year and Jan Chamberlain – Senior of the Year.

The nomination period for the 2022 Senior of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Youth Volunteer of the Year is now open until Monday, March 7, 2022. Forms can be obtained on the City’s website or hard copies are available at City Hall.

The City’s Community Services Committee serves as the selection committee, evaluating applications, taking into consideration the guidelines laid out in the award criteria. The winners will be presented their awards prior to a Council meeting in April and June, pending gathering restrictions.

"The community in and around Owen Sound is surrounded by generous volunteers who provide their time for the good of the community," says Mayor Ian Boddy. "I encourage anyone who knows a deserving volunteer to complete a nomination form and work to have their efforts acknowledged.”

More information on the criteria and selection process can be found on the City’s website.
