flagflap

The rainbow flag is flying again in Owen Sound. This morning at 10 a.m.  the Pride flag was raised at the Owen Sound Police Services building on 2nd Ave. W.
In his opening comments, Police Chief Bill Sornberger said it was the role of the Police to "foster positive joanflagrelationships and champion diversity".  Later he said that Owen Sound Police serve the entire community, and the safety of every member is paramount.
Joan Beecroft, a founding member of Pride Grey Bruce, expressed her delight with the turnout, and with the same beautiful weather as the day in June 2005 when the Pride flag was raised over city hall. She said that  this evidence of inclusivity and acceptance, and the fact that it was happening in a public gathering in front of a police station,  was important for the community as a whole. The crowd, including current and former members of Owen Sound city council as well as members of the LGBT community and their allies, cheered as the flag began to flutter in the summer breeze.
Now that community flags are once again flying in high places, can a review of city policies on the subject  be far behind?
