pumping station2The city is looking for input from residents on the future of the Goodyear sanitary pump station. Owen Sound is undertaking a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) Study for the upgrade or replacement of the Station. The Goodyear sanitary pump station, located on the corner of 32nd St E. and East Bayshore Road/Grey Rd. 15, is part of a system that services a collection area of approximately 80 hectares. The present Goodyear Sanitary Pump Station has undergone several modifications since its original construction in 1966. Given the age of the existing pump station, and the potential redevelopment of the neighbouring RCA Plant for residential use, a Class EA will identify and recommend a preferred alternative solution for the future of the Goodyear Sanitary Pump Station.

The goal of this Municipal Class EA is to determine the best solution for the future of the Station. Currently there are four alternatives being considered: 1) Do Nothing; 2) Refurbish/Upgrade the existing pump station; 3) Construct a new pump station at the same location; and 4) Construct a new pump station at an alternative location.

This project is being conducted as a Schedule B Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) under Ontario's Environmental Assessment Act and is expected to be complete by December 2016. The project area is restricted to the City of Owen Sound only, and does not include the Leith area of Meaford.

Residents, businesses and community organizations are encouraged to participate by attending the Public Information Centre (PIC) and providing input for study consideration. The city will advertise the dates of the upcoming information sessions.
