Owen Sound has received a grant to help prepare a climate adaptation plan for the city. Kris Robinson has been working out of Grey Sauble Conservation Authority, studying roughly 127 years of climate data from two stations in the City Of Owen Sound stretching back to 1879 and ending in 2006. Robinson made a preliminary presentation to the Operations Committee this evening.

The data he presented showed an increasing minimum temperature, and increase in precipitation, even before we stopped collecting data in 2006. This data will be used to determine the risk of flooding or other hazards that could harm or put people in distress.

The Climate Adaptation plan will be a policy document that provides the city with guidance on adapting to the future climate and how it can hope to change its current practices to better take on the future challenges presented to us.
