Dear Mr. Lanthier and Board of Directors:

The Conservation Ontario's core mandate is "to undertake watershed-based programs to protect people and property from flooding and other natural hazards, and to conserve natural resources for economic, social and environmental benefits.

As an organization within Conservation Ontario, I understand this would also be Grey Sauble's mandate.

The Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation indicates that:

A mature dune is valued at $3,000 CAD/ linear metre for its services of shore protection, water filtration, and sand drifting prevention. Coastal dune systems are considered to be among the most fragile ecological features in North America. Great Lakes dune systems in Ontario, due to their extreme rarity and ecological fragility, have been suggested to be of national significance.

By approving the Town of South Bruce Peninsula's latest request for re-contouring dunes and installing a concrete retaining wall at Sauble, a major part of the Conservation Authority's responsibility has been abandoned.

This decision to approve the work should be revisited immediately before the dunes are harmed further.

Respectfully,

Donna Mitchell
