Following the success of their 2019 and 2022 events, the Lake Huron Chess Club is hosting its second annual rated chess tournament for all ages.

The event will take place on May 27-28 at Port Elgin-Saugeen Central School, 504 Catherine Street, Port Elgin, Ontario. The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) is the title sponsor for this year's event. The tournament is five rounds and will feature two sections:

Pro (1500+) and Under-1500. The Under-1500 group includes a number of local players of all ages taking part in their first-ever tournament and is just the place for new players looking to get started. All equipment is provided, along with drinks and snacks throughout the weekend. The Pro section will feature prize money for top finishers; Winners in the U-1500 section will receive trophies, with prize money added if registration totals allow. In addition to the generous support of the NWMO, the Lake Huron Chess Club would like to thank the following sponsors for making this event possible and contributing to the long-term success of chess in Saugeen Shores and the wider area:

  • Deanna Harvie, CIBC Mortgage Advisor
  • Nuclear Promise X (NPX)
  • Shankar Law Office
  • Tracy Doll, Royal LePage Real Estate Broker

“The Pro-Am format is fun for chess veterans and beginners alike—and we are grateful to our generous sponsors for helping us bring this to our community,” said Jeremy Clark, Founder of the Lake Huron Chess Club. “Newcomers are always welcome at tournaments and can come out to our weekly club for lessons.” Register before May 25 for the early-bird discount.

All registrations must be received by 8:00pm on Friday, May 26. Register by visiting lakehuronchess.com. Late registrations before games begin at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 27 are allowed, but may not receive a pairing in the first round.
