West Grey Library continues its sustainability series with two sessions in August: the Food Forest on Saturday, Aug. 5, and Building with Cob on Saturday, Aug. 19.

Both sessions feature homesteaders Misty and Bryce Murph’Ariens, and participants will visit their property for a living experience.

Past sessions with Misty and Bryce, who are both trained chefs and caterers, as well as artists and artisans, have included foraging and permaculture.

They have lived on their experimental farm for almost a decade, and use it as a living lab, combining ancient and old-world techniques with modern technology to develop a modern, yet environmentally friendly way of living on their land.

The session, which starts at 1:00 p.m., includes a tour of several permaculture models including chinampas, or floating islands, a traditional agricultural model from South America that dates from Aztec times.

There is no charge for the session, but pre-registration is required. Location information will be sent to confirmed registrants.
