Canadian Federation of University Women Owen Sound and Area (CFUW) has made the grade on education for local students with the creation of a new endowment fund to be held by Community Foundation Grey Bruce.

The donation totaling more than $20,000 was announced prior to the CFUW Owen Sound and Area's 25th Anniversary Celebration Luncheon today. The donations will create a permanent endowed fund that will provide annual scholarships for local high school graduates to support post-secondary education in perpetuity.

The Community Foundation Grey Bruce will match this generous donation with monies from its Matched Funding Program, which adds fifty cents on every dollar for new and existing funds up to $10,000 per fund, to create maximum impact on the future success of local students.

"We are pleased to have our funds with the Community Foundation and appreciate their generous fund matching as it represents many years of fundraising effort for us," said Ruth Henderson, the new President for the CFUW Owen Sound & Area."
For a quarter century, CFUW has provided educational opportunities for female high school graduates residing in Owen Sound & area who are pursuing post-secondary studies. CFUW membership is now open to all women, not just those who have completed university degrees. The local branch is part of an active national movement that began in 1919, dedicated to improve the status of women and to promote human rights, public education, social justice and peace.

The Foundation is also pleased to acknowledge that a number of other 2015 endowments were started by regional women's groups. This includes the Baker St. Women's Club Endowment Fund to support the Owen Sound Hospital and the regional Residential Hospice, and the Grey County District Women's Institute Scholarship Fund.

Community Foundation Grey Bruce is a public charity and grant-making organization serving charities and not-for-profit organizations in Grey and Bruce Counties. The Foundation has granted upwards of $600,000 in 2015 — the largest annual distribution in its twenty-one-year history.
