The Canadian Cancer Society, Bluewater Office, in partnership with the Owen Sound Attack, is pleased to announce the inaugural Cubs for Cancer event in support of childhood cancer research and support services.
Centred around Saturday, November 25's game against the Guelph Storm, Cubs for Cancer will see the Attack don special jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game.
"The Attack are thrilled to partner with the Canadian Cancer Society for another year in an effort to put an end to such a terrible disease," said Shaun Bisson, Attack Coordinator and Community Events.
"Cancer touches the lives of many and we often forget that the youngest of us have to put up such a large fight. This is an unbelievably worthy cause and we look forward to helping the Canadian Cancer Society make an impact on children and their families combatting the disease in the Grey-Bruce area."
Unique to Cubs for Cancer, the Canadian Cancer Society and the Attack are giving fans two new opportunities to be involved in the fundraising efforts.
Launching today, and running until Sept. 8, fans will have a chance to design the jersey that the Attack players will wear on Nov. 25 against the Storm.
Open to children aged 17 and under, the contest winner will receive a pair of tickets to the game as well as an authentic Cubs for Cancer jersey personalized with their last name and choice of a number.
Supporters will also have the opportunity to participate haircut alongside the Attack at the Celebrity Serve the week prior to the game against Guelph. Participants will be asked to raise at least $200 in pledges toward the event, to be able to participate alongside the players. Hair that is donated will go toward making wigs for local cancer patients as part of a program that sees the Canadian Cancer Society offer free wigs to cancer patients in need.
"We are excited to offer the community a chance to be directly involved with this event through both the jersey designing contest and the hair cut," said Society Community Fundraising Specialist, Emily Bisson.
"The Attack have always been a fantastic community partner and we look forward to adding to the more than $240, 000 we have raised in partnership together. These events wouldn't be possible without the incredible support of our generous community."
