Bruce Grey Owen Sound Federal Women’s Liberal Club is bringing the film “The Woman Who Loves Giraffes” to Owen Sound Wednesday April 24th at 7 p.m. at the Harmony Centre.

The documentary film tells the story of Anne Innis Dagg, who left her home in Toronto in 1956 at the age of 23 to be the first person in the world to study the behaviour of giraffes in the wilds of South Africa.

Long before Jane Goodall set foot in Tanzania, this little known Canadian pioneer was breaking new ground in animal research.

The film tells the little known story of Dagg’s journey, including her return to Canada where sexism in academia prevented her from receiving tenure. University of Guelph has recently issued an apology.

The “Woman Who Loves Giraffes” film is being shown at the Harmony Centre in Owen Sound on Wednesday April 24th at 7 p.m. $15 tickets are available in Owen Sound at The Ginger Press (Owen Sound), Bay-Vue Motel (Meaford) and Hicks & Hicks Law (Hanover). Last minute tickets will be available at the door the night of the showing.
