cancellationFridays for Future BGOS is cancelling discussion on World Environment Day to build awareness about the #BlackLivesMatter movement.

In solidarity with the #blacklivesmatter movement, we have decided to cancel our discussion for World Environment Day, to give space to talk about the murder of George Floyd and other black people, and the need to end all forms of racist violence, including police violence. As protests are taking place all over the world, we need to uplift the voices of racialized communities, and advocate for policies to end racism, poverty, and homelessness. We will start posting regularly on our social media about racial justice, and increase our work on building awareness in our community.

Climate justice requires that we build racial equality into our climate proposals. Most pollution disproportionately affects black and brown communities. As we launch the decade of the Green New Deal, we need to invest in these communities and implement a just transition for the workers who are affected.

During this time, Fridays for Future will focus on the need for justice: justice for George Floyd, justice for all black, brown, and indigenous people who are hurting under the current system. Let us build a just, sustainable future, free from racism, poverty, and hate. #BlackLivesMatter.
