golfMy wife and I have lived in the Grey/Bruce area for approximately 3 years, but have had ties to the area for all of my life. We have family in Southampton, Tara, Owen Sound, and a cottage in Tobermory. This was one of the reasons we wanted to relocate to the region. Very soon after our move, we realized how amazing the citizens of Grey and Bruce county are. They are all wanting to help, donate time, and ultimately make living here even more rewarding.

I was diagnosed with epilepsy 15 years ago, with the last 5 years being uncontrolled with anti-seizure medication. My wife and I wanted to help out in any way that we could to reach out to others in our area to raise epilepsy awareness. Since we’ve done this, our social media platforms grew much faster than we initially anticipated indicating that this was something our beautiful counties desperately needed.

Two months after we launched our social media pages, we realized that trying to inspire others wasn’t enough. We then reached out to Epilepsy Canada to host an inaugural event in our area. These types of events do exist in other regions, however, the closest being London doesn’t make it easy for almost any of us to attend.

We took it upon ourselves to make a fun event day based out of Owen Sound a possibility. With all of the uncertainty in the world right now, we figured an event could bring some positivity and optimism back.

The Grey/Bruce Epilepsy Classic was then formed. It will be an open event to anyone who would like to attend. Whether you’re a patient suffering from epilepsy or another seizure disorder, a friend or family member of someone who suffers, or even if you would like to help raise awareness and ultimately raise money for an excellent cause, we would love to have you all there.

The event will take place at Legacy Ridge Golf Course on September 19th of this year. It includes a round of golf, followed by dinner on the patio, and plenty of fantastic items to auction on with all of the proceeds going towards epilepsy research.

If you can’t attend, but would still like to support the event, there is a donation option on Epilepsy Canada’s website. For those of you who would like to attend, we hope to meet and chat with every one of you.
