OS-Police-cuffsOn Thursday January 19 th , 2017 at approximately 9:55 pm the Owen Sound Police Service received a call about a male and female arguing while in the area of 2nd Avenue and 6th Street East.

Police attended the area however could not locate any disturbance. While police were still searching the area, a white pickup truck travelling southbound in the 500 block of 2nd Avenue East swerved into the oncoming path of a north bound police vehicle. sideviewThe Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has received multiple complaints of theft, from unlocked vehicles in the area of Bruce Road 13 towards Oliphant, in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula. The thefts occurred between the evening hours of January 12 to January 13, 2017.

The on-going investigation has revealed a lone male was entering unlocked vehicles, which were parked in private driveways. The suspect stole approximately $100, a hunting knife, A/C convertor, flashlight and a fuse.

Since mid-December, there have been seven respiratory outbreaks, including five influenza outbreaks in long-term care facilities. There are another 26 lab-confirmed influenza cases in the community as well as significant numbers of respiratory and gastrointestinal illness. This widespread sickness is having an impact on area hospitals due to increased admissions.

The Owen Sound Campus will remain closed this evening, Thursday, Jan. 19. Power has been restored and the campus will open as normal on Friday, Jan. 20.

At Owen Sound Campus over the noon hour today (Thursday, Jan. 19), a 100-amp breaker failed. When breakers blow, they make a loud bang and this did – there was not an explosion, but the breaker failure did scorch the electrical switchboard and this will need repairs.

The cause of the power outage appears to have been a loose connection that overheated and caused the failure.
