phone-regSouth Bruce Peninsula – On December 31st, 2014, members of the Bruce Peninsula OPP were contacted about a harassing telephone call occurrence.

Investigation revealed that the accused, 65, of the Town of South Bruce Peninsula, had placed 11 harassing calls on December 30th and an additional 38 calls on December 31st to the victim. The accused was verbally abusive to the victim and bound by a probation order to abstain from communicating with this person.

Bruce Peninsula OPP executed an arrest warrant at the accused's residence in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula. She was arrested without incident.

TheSaginaw-regThe freighter The Saginaw appears to have run aground off Balmy Beach and was seen anchored there Thursday morning. Locals on Balmy Beach Road said they noticed the hulking ship there late Wednesday night. It's believed The Saginaw was at the Owen Sound grain elevators earlier in the day Wednesday.

money-regGEORGIAN BLUFFS - Grey County OPP is seeking the lawful owner of found money at a cemetery in Georgian Bluffs on Christmas Day.

On Thursday morning, December 25, 2014, a resident who had attended the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, located on Grey Rd. 17A in the Township of Georgian Bluffs, discovered a significant amount of money strewn about the cemetery. The resident gathered up the cash and turned it over to police for safekeeping.

The lawful owner of the money may claim it by attending the Chatsworth OPP detachment during normal business hours – Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (with the exception of Thursday, January 1, 2015 – closed for New Year's Day). Proof of ownership, including specific details, will be required before the property is released.

fire-os-police-regA 78-year-old Owen Sound woman who died in an apartment fire at 305 14th Street West on December 28th, has been identified as Julia Ann Leslie. She was extricated without vital signs from her 8th floor apartment, by members of the Owen Sound Fire Services. Life-saving efforts were attempted by paramedics at the scene, but were unsuccessful. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish and contain the smoldering fire, which originated in the deceased's apartment unit.

A joint investigation by the Coroner's Office, Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal and Owen Sound Police Criminal Investigation Branch has determined that the deceased died from smoke inhalation. The investigation concluded that the fire was started by a lit cigarette. Foul play has been ruled out.

oppb-graphic-regularCHATSWORTH - On Saturday, December 27, 2014 at approximately 10:41 a.m., Grey County OPP received a report of a break-in to a residence on Grey Road 3 in the Township of Chatsworth.

Sometime between 11:00 p.m. on Friday, December 26th, and 8:00 a.m. on December 27th, unknown person(s) entered an insecure residence on Grey Road 3 while the occupants were asleep.

An HP laptop computer, serial number 5CD3114YGZ valued at $1100, was taken. Two ladies purses, a tan coloured "Rossetti" handbag and a royal blue "Roxy" handbag, containing health cards, SIN cards, credit cards, car keys, cash and other miscellaneous items were also stolen.

Residents are reminded to always lock the doors to their homes and their vehicles.
