Snowday-reagThe storm whipping Bruce and Grey counties with high winds and snow continued into a third day Thursday, with school buses cancelled across the region and many local events shut down. opp-snow-regSouth Bruce County – The second winter storm of the season surprised a number of motorists. South Bruce OPP officers were kept busy dealing with a high number of motor vehicle collisions and stranded vehicles that were blocking, or partially blocking, the road and impeding the road crews' efforts to clear the snow.

Between 3:30 pm on November 17, 2014 and 7:00 am on November 19, 2014, the South Bruce OPP received 45 reports involving a collision or stranded vehicle. A number of these incidents involved multiple vehicles, but there was just minor injuries reported at one of the scenes.

"I'm pleased that no one has been seriously hurt, at the same time, I find myself wondering why so many vehicles have been caught in the storm. I urge all residents of Southern Bruce County to frequently check road and weather reports this time of year before getting into a vehicle and monitor local radio stations for updates. I don't want to see anyone else at risk travelling through a storm; including first responders that are put in harm's way trying to locate stranded vehicles" – Acting Inspector Wayne Thompson, Detachment Commander, South Bruce OPP.

angel-regThe Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation's Christmas Angel Campaign is underway. This year, it aims to help put people "back on their feet". The goal is to raise $300,000 for new operating room equipment used by orthopaedic surgeons.
GBHS Chief of Staff, Dr. Brendan Mulroy says "I've had the pleasure of seeing countless patients put back on their feet. Knee or hip replacement surgery can transform a life – it's not unusual to see a patient who struggled to climb a flight of stairs return to hiking or golf afterwards."

flare-regCHATSWORTH – On Monday, November 17, 2014 at approximately 12:36 p.m. Grey County OPP received a report of a house fire on Front Street, in Walter's Falls, in the Township of Chatsworth.

A smoke detector sounded, alerting the family of 3, who evacuated the residence without injury. The 1 ½ storey, board and batten farm house was destroyed as a result of the fire, which is believed to have started as a result of a wood furnace in the basement.

The Chatsworth Fire Department and the Grey Highlands Fire Department attended.
