CHATSWORTH – With hunting season underway, Grey County OPP would like to remind the public that rifle deer hunting season started one half hour before sunrise on Monday, November 3rd and will end one half hour after sunset on Saturday, November 8th, 2014.
Police often receive calls from concerned residents who report hearing gun shots. Residents can expect to hear gun shots during rifle hunting season and there is no cause to be alarmed. The OPP and the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) will be patrolling the area to ensure hunters are complying with the regulations.
Georgian College throws open its doors at all seven campuses for its annual Fall Open House on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Prospective students and their friends and family are all welcome.
Visitors will be able to ask questions about housing options, the application process, books, financial aid, awards and scholarships, campus food options, and more. They'll also have a chance to meet faculty, staff and other students, and learn more about programs that start in January, May and September.
At Barrie and Orillia, 20-minute academic information sessions will repeat every half-hour. New this year at Barrie is a special VIP area to welcome students who are attending in January. At all other campuses, participants are invited to drop by classroom sessions throughout the day.
TIVERTON, ON – After the death of two members of Canada's Armed Forces last week, Bruce Power employees rallied together to raise over $15,000 in support of our troops, with more money to be counted.
On Thursday, Bruce Power employees opened their hearts and wallets to honour the service and memories of Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent and Corporal Nathan Cirillo, who were killed in two separate incidents last week. The $15,000 raised will go to Helmets to Hardhats (H2H) Canada, a non-profit organization which helps Canadian veterans and reservists transition to civilian life by offering apprenticeship opportunities in the building trades.
Falls are the leading cause of serious injuries in older adults; every year, one in three older adults will fall. The growing number of falls among Ontario's seniors and the devastating consequences from falls has prompted Finding Balance; seniors focussed awareness and injury prevention program.
"Finding Balance aims to help seniors stay active and independent. Seniors have so much to contribute and are a vital part of our families and communities." says Alysa Heersink, Health Promoter with the Grey Bruce Health Unit. "While the cost to our health care system from falls is significant; they are small when compared to the impacts on the independence and quality of life of seniors experiencing falls."
