The Georgian Bay Symphony is pleased to announce that Francois Koh has accepted the offer to become the Symphony's Music Director and Conductor for the 2015-2016 Season. Maestro Koh is a native of Seoul, Korea where he majored in classical guitar. He studied conducting in France and holds a Master's Degree in Orchestra Conducting from McGill University

(Montreal). There he served as the assistant conductor of the McGill Symphony Orchestra, Opera McGill and McGill Wind Symphony. Presently, he, is working towards his Doctorate in conducting at the University of Toronto. Koh has an interest in promoting contemporary music and has conducted several North American and World Premieres. Recently, he worked as the assistant conductor of the Kawartha Youth Orchestra and the Peterborough Symphony Orchestra.

In a letter to the GBS musicians Board Chair, Sandy Stevenson expressed how excited the Board was to offer Koh the position and said "The decision was a difficult one to make, because we had four excellent candidates – each bringing unique strengths." Stevenson went on to say that, "Francois is really looking forward to working with the orchestra – and sees this as a great opportunity for everyone".

Retiring Music Director John Barnum will conduct his final concert with the Symphony on Saturday May 9th at the OSCVI. He and Francois Koh have already begun work on the 2015-16 Season as the transition period has begun.
