miller-header-fullOttawa, ON – Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, is concerned that many families in Bruce and Grey Counties will miss out on receiving benefits that they are entitled to simply by not applying for the Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB) before Friday, May 1st, 2015.
Under the proposed enhancements to the UCCB, families will receive $1,920 per year for each child under 6 and $720 per year for each child aged 6 through 17. The new benefit amounts would be retroactive to January 1st, 2015 and would be reflected in monthly payments to families in July 2015. The proposed enhancements to the UCCB are expected to more than double the number of families that benefit from the UCCB.
Many families who are currently receiving the Child Tax Benefit for all of their children will receive the enhanced UCCB automatically or will be contacted by the Government to confirm their information. However, many eligible families are not currently recorded in the Government's UCCB system and may miss out on receiving money that is owed to them unless they apply. It is estimated that over 200,000 families across the country, who are eligible to receive this benefit, have not yet applied.
"I am very concerned that families in Bruce and Grey will miss out on money that is owed to them. Many parents have not yet applied for this benefit. This is money that is owed to parents and will represent potentially millions of dollars in unclaimed benefits, said Miller. "I strongly encourage all parents with children under 18 to apply to receive the Universal Child Care Benefit."
If your family is not currently receiving the UCCB, has never received the UCCB, or has never applied for the Canada Child Tax Benefit and you still have children under 18 in your care, please go to www.canada.ca/taxsavings in order to apply.
