On Friday September 2nd, 2016 just before 10pm a citizen called police about a vehicle swerving all over the road in the 700 block of 10th Street East, Owen Sound. Police attended, located the vehicle and investigated the driver. As a result a 22yr old Markdale area woman was charged with Impaired Operation, Operation with Over 80 mgs. of Alcohol and Driving a Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available. The driver was found to have 2.5 times the legal limit of alcohol in her blood. The woman will appear in court on September 15, 2016.
On Saturday night a Joint Forces Traffic Initiative involving officers from the Owen Sound Police Service, Grey County OPP, Bruce County OPP, South Bruce OPP, West Grey Police Service and Saugeen Shores Police Service was deployed within the city. The focus was on effective enforcement and deterrence of drinking and driving and related offences.
As a result a RIDE spot check was conducted at the Georgian Shores Marina entrance as hundreds of people were in attendance at the Owen Sound Salmon Spectacular. Shortly before 10pm a driver was investigated as he arrived at the location and as a result was taken into custody. The 50yr old Owen Sound man faces a charge of Operation with Over 80 mgs. of Alcohol after he was found to have 3 times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.
A second RIDE spot check was conducted in relation to a separate entranceway into the licenced event which is held annually. Just after 10:30pm a vehicle was observed by one of the Joint Forces officers attempting to evade the spot check as it arrived. The officer investigated the driver which led to his arrest and the subsequent suspension of his Driver's Licence for a period of 7 days based on his Blood Alcohol Content.
On Sunday morning shortly before 4am police responded to an accident in the 200 block of 8th Street East. The driver failed to remain at the scene which involved a tree however he was located in the 200 block of 12th Street West. The driver was investigated and taken into custody. The 21yr old Owen Sound man faces five charges under the Highway Traffic Act as well as being charged with Possession of Marihuana, Impaired Operation and Operation with Over 80 mgs. of Alcohol. The man will appear in court September 22, 2016.
