A 23-year-old Owen Sound man turned himself into police Wednesday morning following a collision between a speeding pickup truck and a house Tuesday night, following the Canada Day festivities at Kelso Park.

Pete Marsh, owner of the house at the corner of 4th Ave. W and 21st St., was home watching a movie while his wife baked cookies, he told the Hub early Wednesday. It was about 11 p.m. He heard and saw a black Dodge Ram pickup out in the street doing "burnouts."

Moments later, a corner of Marsh's house, and his just-renovated sitting room, were struck by the truck. "Police arrived to find the truck wedged in between the rear of the house ... and a detached garage, causing extensive damage to the home," the Owen Sound police said in a new release. The driver ran off.

The garage, on which the bricks had just been re-pointed, was also damaged.

Neither Marsh nor his wife, nor any occupants of the pickup, were injured.

In an interview early Wednesday morning, Marsh said he hoped his insurance company will cover the damage, but that either way he'll lose the deductible. He said he intended to cover the gaping opening in the corner of his home with a tarp, pending repairs.

The driver of the pickup is due in court on August 14th. He faces a charge of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Failing to Report.
