Lock-it-Lose-it-Owen-SoundSometime over the night on Thursday January 5th to early Friday morning on the 6th of January several unlocked vehicles were entered and various items stolen from within. It was evident that the culprit(s) were travelling on foot stealing basically change and smaller items from the vehicles. Over 11 motor vehicles were reported to have been entered from the 2100 block to the 2600 block of 8th Avenue East, Owen Sound.

In December 2016 The Owen Sound Police Service joined other police services in the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police annual "Lock It OR Lose It" campaign which runs until today (January 7th, 2017). Owen Sound officers while patrolling on foot through parking lots and public venues have dispersed hundreds of pamphlets on the windshield of vehicles to remind motorists to lock their vehicles to prevent theft of items contained inside or the theft of the vehicle itself.

The Owen Sound Police want to also remind motorists that not only is it important to ensure that your unattended vehicle is locked when you leave it behind in public areas, it is equally important to ensure that you lock it once arriving home, to a friends or elsewhere. It is a very common occurrence for untrusting individuals to travel along trying the doors of vehicles until finding one unlocked; then they infringe on your privacy, helping themselves to your personal property that you have left behind, and in some cases this includes your keys and your vehicle.

Why make it easy for criminals, "Lock It OR Lose It".

Remember theft of property can happen day or night. If you see something suspicious, call the Owen Sound Police Service at 519-376-1234 or in an emergency dial 9-11.
