moneyThe Owen Sound Police Service is pleased to announce that a Good Samaritan has come forward and returned the cash that had been forgotten at a local ATM machine on Tuesday.

A 53 year old Owen Sound resident reported that she used an ATM at an east side service station to withdrawal a substantial amount of cash around 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday but forgot to take the cash from the slot. Minutes later another customer used the ATM. The victim returned to the ATM soon after and realized her money was taken.

A 40-year old Owen Sound resident had attended the same ATM shortly thereafter and discovered cash occupying the dispensing tray. Unable to locate the person who withdrew the money, he returned home with the cash and started checking social media, hoping to find someone who had posted the loss.

Originally unsuccessful, he persisted and eventually located an Owen Sound Police Services media release that had been posted on an Owen Sound radio station's news page. He called police immediately and made arrangements to return the money. A few hours later the rightful owner attended the police station and retrieved it. She expressed her sincere thanks to the kind person that returned the money.

Owen Sound police wish to thank the public and media outlets for its assistance on this case and for sharing it on social media.
