medicationOne hundred and fifty people received free Owen Sound Attack tickets for dropping off their old and unused medication at the Rexall Pharma Plus in downtown Owen Sound.

The Medication Misuse campaign supports the proper disposal and storage of medication and reduced the amount of circulating unused and expired medication, especially opioid pain relievers, in our community. In exchange for the return of unused medication dropped off at the Rexall Pharma Plus in downtown Owen Sound between Sept. 23 and 30, participants received a voucher for a free ticket to an Owen Sound Attack game.

The variety of medications that were returned included a number of the controlled substances that we were hoping to see, including hydromorphone, morphine, oxycodone and codeine. The campaign also prevented these drugs from being sent to landfills or flushed down the toilet, ending in our water system. Unused medication should always be returned to a pharmacy for proper disposal.

Thanks to all who participated in this event!
