bruce-contest-fullTIVERTON, ON –Bruce Power has been awarded a gold level certification from the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB) for excellence in aboriginal relations, the nuclear operator said in a news release.

This is the highest level of recognition offered by the CCAB and Bruce Power is one of only 12 companies in Canada to receive the designation, Bruce Power said.

"We're honoured and humbled by this recognition and profoundly grateful to the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business for its recognition of our efforts," Duncan Hawthorne, Bruce Power's President and CEO, was quoted as saying in the news release. "This designation carries with it a great responsibility to build upon the work we've already done with our Aboriginal employees and the Aboriginal communities whose territories we operate within."

"Bruce Power's continued participation in the Progressive Aboriginal Relations program reflects its commitment to building lasting Aboriginal relationships," J.P. Gladu, President and CEO of the CCAB, was quoted as saying in the release. "The Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business congratulates Bruce Power and looks forward to its continued success and our shared goal for the betterment of all our communities."

Bruce Power submitted its application earlier this year, the details of which were verified by an independent third party, the operator said. Its outcomes and initiatives in four performance areas – employment, business development, community investment and community engagement – were reviewed by a jury of Aboriginal business people, Bruce Power said.
