Ottawa, ON – Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, is encouraging all interested students in Bruce and Grey Counties to apply to become a House of Commons Page in 2015.
Every year, 40 students are selected from across Canada to become Pages in the Canadian House of Commons. Pages serve the Speaker, Chair Occupants, Members of Parliament and Table Officers in various capacities. Collecting and distributing official documents, delivering important messages to Members, linking Members to their Hill offices and delivering glasses of water are among the many duties of a House of Commons Page.
To be eligible for the Page Program you must:
- Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident;
- Be graduating from a secondary school and be commencing full-time studies at one of the four universities in the National Capital Region;
- Have an overall academic average of at least 80%;
- Be able to communicate fluently in both official languages;
"The Page Program is a great opportunity for students to get directly involved in Canadian politics while going to school in the Ottawa area," said Miller. "There have been several Pages from Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound in the past couple years. It is always great to see local students getting involved in politics on the Hill."
Students who are interested in applying should do so before the December 8th, 2014 deadline.
