MRI challenge1There’s a fierce community fundraising challenge taking place on the Bruce Peninsula right now, and it’s all for a healthy cause. The MRI at the Owen Sound Regional Hospital is one of the oldest in the province, and it needs to be replaced.

The Walsh Family at Walsh’s Garage on Highway #6, north of Ferndale, started the challenge by donating $5000 to the Bruce Peninsula Health Services Foundation for the new MRI, and they asked others to beat their donation. So far, one organization has met the challenge, and two others have surpassed the Walsh family donation:

Celtic Sports & Arts Camp: $5000

Miller’s Family Camp: $5010

Rona, Miller Lake: $5030

Miller Lake Rona is the highest donor to date, and now owners Dennis and Kathy Doidge and family are issuing a challenge of their own. They are calling on all building centres in Grey Bruce to meet or exceed their donation of $5,030. Likewise, Miller’s Family Camp is challenging all campgrounds in Grey Bruce to meet or exceed their donation of $5010!!MRI challenge2

So far, the Bruce Peninsula Health Services Foundation has raised $266,000 towards the $4.7 million needed for the MRI. The total raised to date by all five hospital foundations supporting Grey Bruce Health Services is $2,709,562! The new machine is expected to arrive later this year.

* Faster imaging to significantly reduce scan times
* Quieter tests so patients experience less noise
* Exceptional accuracy
* New software for cardiac and prostate imaging
* Enhanced breast imaging
* Increased energy efficiency
