hike for hospiceVarious locations across Grey & Bruce – On Sunday, May 5th Grey & Bruce residents joined together to raise funds and awareness for hospice palliative care programs and services. Over 600 participants including many family members and friends of past hospice residents gathered at 9 locations across Grey & Bruce counties. A tremendous $194,117 was raised to assist with the ongoing operational costs at Chapman House which serves residents from both counties. Fund Development Manager Rachel Taylor said “We are so thrilled with the outpouring of support we have received from the community this year. This result is really a testament to what our region can do when we all pull together.” With donations usually continuing to come in for a week or two after the event Taylor anticipates that they will reach their fundraising goal of $200,000.

Hospice palliative care at Chapman House is provided at no cost to the resident or their family. More than 50% of the funds needed to provide the hospice palliative care services provided by Chapman House come from charitable donations, which make this annual fundraiser a key component to ensuring the future of our community hospices.

The Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce would like to thank the hundreds of people across Grey & Bruce who participated in and donated to the event. The hospice would also like to thank the dedicated team of volunteers who made the day a success and the generous businesses that sponsored the event. Bayshore Broadcasting and the Shoppers Drug Mart in Hanover were major contributors to this event once again this year.

Looking ahead, the hospice will be looking for additional volunteers interested in joining the fundraising and event planning committee for the 2020 hike. Interested parties are encouraged to contract Rachel Taylor at [email protected].

Donations towards the Hike for Hospice are still being accepted at Chapman House or can be made online at www.greybrucehospice.com.
